Fort Worth Stockyards at Rodeo Time with bus loads of visitors from all over the world and the most recently spruced up Stockyartds area makes a great place to paint even in January! I’ve always wanted to stay at the Stockyards Hotel on Exchange. The “real” cowboys stay there! They arrive in their Stetsons and leather boots. Walking through the streets and shops brings out a latent desire to be a “real” cowgirl complete with boots and a fringed jacket (which I have).
I had hoped to find a way to paint inside the Hotel.
I wandered through and took pictures of the bar and restaurant areas. Maybe next time but it was much to busy and crowded to even dream of asking for permission to do that on this weekend. On the streets you can get your picture taken astride the oldest longhorn in Texas - Patrone! He’s a beauty and stands on his watch with dignity. He gets a break now and then as one of the other “herd” get their chance to meet with the visitors up close. The honor or a picture is a mere $5.00. A bargain for sure.
There were about 20 - 25 of the members of the Outdoor Painters Society working away this weekend. Everyone is so nice Some one gave me some hot coffee during the 43 degree morning and another “tipped” me $5.00! I’ve never had that happen before! To the right is my friend Lynn Larose complete painting at the corner of Exchange and Main. Below is a view of Exchange as it stretches up the hill.
